Short-Term Rental (STR) Reporting
FYI - illegal STRs CAN be reported anonymously:
Options for reporting illegal STR:
Portal (anonymous unless you opt-in to help with investigation)
Email DSDSTR@sanantonio.gov with your own report of what is happening, including address, links to active listings, photos, and any relevant information
Call 3-1-1 with description of issue
There is a “required” field for Name and Address. This field will toggle off if you select “NO” under the section titled Willing to Help. The Name and Address are only required if you are willing to help with the investigation. HOWEVER, the “required name” appears to toggle off only when changing “no” to “yes” and back to “no.”
Note: If you are reporting other related issues like parking or noise, call 210-207-SAPD.
The last round of code updates helped to expedite our enforcement mechanisms.
Once a report is made:
Code officer makes inspection and issues a notice of violation
Property owner has 10 days to come into compliance (pull necessary permit or cease operation)
Upon reinspection, if violation is still taking place, officer may issue a citation
Citations used to take much longer to issue because they required municipal court action
Property owner gets a court date approximately 30-45 days out
Code officer reinspects property after court date
Up to 2 more citations (with fines) can be issued if still not in compliance
City has the ability to cut power to the property after 3 citations
