Dear Neighbors of Historic Lavaca,
There are exciting changes taking shape within our community. Many of our neighbors are diligently making efforts to create a safer Lavaca. We are the “gateway to Southtown”, the oldest neighborhood in San Antonio and a diverse community of age, race and economies. No matter where you are in the spectrum, safety affects us all.
Like our neighbors King William, we should welcome revitalization of our businesses, schools, streets and safety concerns. However, revitalization is not only money, tourism and entrepreneurs, but new people, families and children to call the neighborhood home. What better way to bring new families into our neighborhood than creating a safe environment for which they may live?
In the last 11 months we have been in contact with multiple city departments to enhance our neighborhood. Our recent accomplishments have been:
• The addition of two of our pocket parks to the 21 day mowing/cleanup cycle to discourage vagrants.
• An official meeting with Via bus to slow down drivers along our streets.
• A stop sign at Florida and Labor.
• Upcoming tree plantings inside our street bump outs, planned for November. |
