The Lavaca & Friends weekly Happy Hour has moved to a new home — the Liberty Bar. The time is unchanged: Every Thursday from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
“The happy hour has grown,” explained the event’s co-founder, Jane Gennarelli, “and we reached a point where we needed a new venue. Liberty Bar is a great spot for us — they’ve got a full bar, great happy hour prices for drinks and pizza, and a terrific selection of bar food and appetizers. Plus, the bar is large enough for our group, while still feeling kind of cozy and inviting.”
The Lavaca & Friends Happy Hour is now more than three years old. It differs from most organized happy hours in that it meets every week at the same time and the same place.
“Most of the organized happy hour groups rotate their locations,” said co-founder Jim Feuerstein. “And they’re often monthly events. We wanted to make our happy hour a drop-in event — something where people wouldn’t have to think about whether the event is scheduled for this week or next, at this place or that place. We’re always in the same place, and we’re there every Thursday. I think that’s one of the reasons we’ve been so successful.”
The Lavaca & Friends Happy Hour has a weekly attendance ranging from fifteen to thirty-five people, and the faces change from week to week. There are some people who attend almost every week, and others who come maybe once a month. Attendees include neighbors from throughout Southtown and Downtown and even a handful from outside the Loop. The third anniversary happy hour — just a few weeks ago — attracted one hundred neighbors.
