District 123 Legislative Debrief Session

UPDATE: Due to an unforeseen schedule glitch, the Legislative Debrief and Abundant Communities workshop, scheduled for August 16th must be cancelled.  Rep Villarreal and his staff send our regrets and apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused.  We will work to reschedule in the near future.  Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

State Representative Mike Villarreal invites you to a legislative debrief of the 82nd Legislative Session. The date is Tuesday, August 16th at 6:30 pm. Richard Acosta, President of the Los Angeles Heights NA, has graciously arranged for us to use space at the LA Heights Presbyterian Church at 2002 W. Olmos, a block west of West Ave. This will give us an opportunity to hear about legislation that passed and its effect on our communities and schools.

In addition, we would like to do a mini Abundant Communities workshop afterwards. Abundant Communities is based on the writings and books by Peter Block. Please see link for more info: http://www.asmallgroup.net/pages/content/index.html. For those of you who attended the last NAA meeting, you were given an introduction to the concept and the model. The feedback was very positive and several of you asked about doing a workshop. We have ask Tom Heger, the organizer of the workshops on Abundant Communities conducted at Trinity University earlier this year to present the mini-workshop. He will introduce the model and then we will do some role playing. Abundant Communities is about how we allow people in our communities to come forward to contribute their talents and time towards a common goal.

Each of these pieces would take about an hour. The Representative will do the debrief first and then we’ll have Q & A to finish out the hour. We have planned from 7:30 – 8:30 for the Abundant Communities workshop. Please feel free to excuse yourself, if you are not interested in the workshop at this time. We just wanted you to know about it and extend an invitation.

Please RSVP at toni.serna@house.state.tx.us or cosima.colvin@house.state.tx.us. Or call us at 210.734-8937.
