Studies show that students often lose reading skill during the summer months. This loss of skill, known as “summer setback” can be offset by reading as few as 6 to 8 books during the summer. The San Antonio Public Library is ready to help your students keep their reading skills sharp this summer through the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club.

Registration for the Reading Club opens on June 1. Children can sign up online or at any San Antonio Public Library location. The closest libraries to our neighborhood are the Central Library downtown and San Pedro Library located in San Pedro Park. Come read and then swim in the terrific pool in the park! For additional information about the Reading Club, call 207-2621 (Central Children’s Dept) or 733-1454 (San Pedro Library).

The Summer Reading Kick off Party will take place on Saturday, June 4th at San Pedro Park Library from 2 – 4 p.m. Drop in anytime during those hours to sign up and have all sorts of summertime fun, including an obstacle course, blowing bubbles, creating chalk art and summer-y crafts!
